Grand Heist City: Fortnite's GTA 6 stand-in gets a new name
Typical Gamer’s JOGO Studios launched Grand Heist City in Fortnite, a GTA-inspired map pitched as a way to wait for GTA 6. Its teaser vanished and it’s now Cash Heist City.
While GTA 6 is still on its way, someone is already offering something similar inside Fortnite. On March 6, 2026, JOGO Studios, the studio founded by content creator Andre "Typical Gamer" Rebelo, announced Grand Heist City, a huge GTA-inspired open-world map launching on March 14. Two weeks later, it had a different name.
What Grand Heist City is
According to the studio, it's JOGO's most ambitious project yet: a mission-driven sandbox in Fortnite that aims to deliver "the chaotic energy of GTA" through open play, heists and multiplayer mayhem in a living city.
- Studio: JOGO Studios, founded by Typical Gamer in May 2024.
- Partner: KitBash3D, which supplies 3D assets, in its first collaboration with a Fortnite studio.
- Funding: an Epic Games Mega Grant.
- Monetization: JOGO's first map with in-game purchases.
- Launch: March 14, 2026.
A GTA 6 alternative, no beating around the bush
Rebelo didn't hide the inspiration. Speaking to Variety, Rebelo described a lifelong love of GTA and explained the thinking behind the project:
"We wanted to create a big experience, one experience that maybe people who are looking forward to 'Grand Theft Auto VI,' they can play this in the meantime. Or if 'Grand Theft Auto' is too expensive, maybe it does hit that $100 price tag, we have created a 'Fortnite'-inspired 'Grand Theft Auto' right in 'Grand Heist City.'"
The name itself, with that "Grand" up front, completed the picture.
Update: it's now called Cash Heist City
The reveal teaser that accompanied the announcement is no longer available on YouTube, and on March 21 the game debuted a new trailer under a different name: Cash Heist City. The word "Grand" is gone, and with it the most obvious link to GTA. Neither JOGO nor Rockstar has publicly explained the change.
Why it matters
This case is different from the mods and ports that usually run into trouble with Take-Two. There's no Rockstar code and no game assets here: Grand Heist City is built with Fortnite's tools and KitBash3D models. What tied it to GTA was branding and marketing. The takeaway is simple: nobody owns the open-world genre, but giving it a GTA-like name and pitching it as a GTA 6 substitute is risky ground.
Our take
JOGO kept its game and lost its name, a small price compared with what other GTA-inspired projects have paid. The timing didn't help either: months before GTA 6 launches, anything trying to ride its wave draws attention, Rockstar's included.
