GTA 6: Stephen Root confirms he is in the game as Brian Heder

The King of the Hill and Barry actor confirms his role in GTA VI. Fans had already recognized his voice as Brian Heder in the second trailer.

It's no longer a rumor. Actor Stephen Root has confirmed he's part of the GTA VI cast. He said so in an interview with the Associated Press at the BAFTA TV Tea Party in mid-September 2026: "Yeah, you're gonna see me in there. It's coming out November 19th."

Brian Heder, the giveaway

Root didn't name his character, but he gave the decisive clue: his character already appeared in the game's marketing almost a year ago, and too many people recognized his voice from King of the Hill, so "that secret kind of got divulged then." That matches what fans have suspected since the second trailer: the voice of Brian Heder was his.

Brian is one of the characters Rockstar officially introduced: a veteran smuggler in the Leonida Keys, decades into the business, whom Jason works for early in the story.

Asked about the experience, he said he was "so happy to be involved" and that the game is "an amazing thing to look at."

Why it stands out

Rockstar's default is total secrecy: actors in its games usually go years without being able to say they're involved. Root confirming it publicly two months before launch suggests the studio no longer minds parts of the cast being known. It also highlights one of GTA VI's casting strengths: veteran, instantly recognizable actors in supporting roles.
