GTA VI's marketing has the green light in one of Miami's best-known areas. On September 10, 2026, the Miami Beach City Commission voted 4-3, after a tense debate, to approve a deal letting Rockstar pay for advertising for the game in the city during the run-up to launch.

Aspect

Details

Vote

4 in favor, 3 against

Period

October 15 to December 31, 2026

Type of advertising

Subtler than classic billboards: "VI" and "Vice City" lettering on things like beach umbrellas, kept off certain buildings and landmarks

Precedent

Privileges normally granted only to events like the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix or the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Money

One official mentioned a figure close to $4 million, with final terms still to be negotiated

The approved text justifies the deal by Vice City's cultural association with Miami and South Florida, and by the international media attention the launch will bring, framed as a chance to promote the city as a hub for entertainment, technology and tourism.

Why three commissioners voted no

Not everyone was on board. During the session, one commissioner objected to promoting a game that, in their view, depicts violence against police, the same argument heard at Miami-Dade County level. It's a debate that has followed GTA for two decades, and Miami has a direct precedent: the protests over GTA Vice City in 2003.

What it means for the campaign

Miami is the natural stage for GTA VI's marketing, since Vice City is its fictional twin. With this vote, Rockstar secures a presence on Miami Beach's beaches and streets around the November 19 launch and the weeks after, though the final agreement still has to be signed. The rest of the city and the county vote separately, so the campaign will roll out piece by piece.
