GTA VI launches on

Jason and Lucia walk into a room at night where several people stand waiting, one of them facing away with a tattooed back.

GTA 6: Arthur Morgan actor Roger Clark on the Jason comparisons

RDR2's Roger Clark says comparing Jason to Arthur Morgan is only natural, but we need to play it first. Is he in GTA VI? "Not to my knowledge."

Ever since the first GTA VI trailer, plenty of players have seen a bit of Arthur Morgan in Jason Duval. Now Arthur himself has weighed in. Roger Clark, who played the Red Dead Redemption 2 lead, was asked about it on a Red Dead panel at FanX Salt Lake alongside Rob Wiethoff (John Marston), in comments reported by Collider on September 26, 2026.

What Roger Clark said

Clark didn't dodge the question, but he didn't get ahead of himself either:

  • Comparisons are inevitable: "Obviously there are going to be comparisons because it's Rockstar's next game."
  • Looks, yes; the rest, we'll see: he gets why people compare the two on appearance, but says there's too little to go on to know whether it runs deeper. "It's hard to say until we actually get a go at it."
  • He's flattered: "We have very limited information, but the trailers look amazing." He expects Rockstar to "knock it out of the park again."

Is he in GTA VI? "Not to my knowledge," he said, before joking that he'd give the exact same answer if he were.

Why people compare them

It makes sense that the question is coming up now. For many players, Arthur Morgan is the best protagonist Rockstar has ever written, and Jason shares some obvious traits: a big man with a complicated past. According to Rockstar, Jason did a stint in the Army and lives in a property owned by Brian Heder, a veteran Keys smuggler, in return for helping him out; Heder is voiced by Stephen Root.

There's a key difference, though: GTA VI has two protagonists, and much of what we've seen revolves around Jason's relationship with Lucia. Rockstar still hasn't announced who plays either of them.

Our take

Clark's answer is the sensible one. Comparing Jason to Arthur off the back of a trailer is unavoidable, but what made Arthur great was a story arc dozens of hours long that nobody could have guessed from his first screenshots. Jason will be no different, and we'll start finding out on November 19.
