Game Informer's GTA VI cover story, published on September 29, 2026 in issue 382, comes with 12 new screenshots. They're different from the twenty or so Rockstar released alongside An Extended Look in August, and nearly all of them illustrate the magazine's main point: a huge map with as much wilderness as city. For what the feature actually says, see our Game Informer roundup.

Vice City and the coast

A couple on sun loungers on a packed Vice City beach, with red umbrellas, people running with a US flag and towers in the background.

The Vice City beach is teeming: sunbathers, umbrellas, someone running with a flag and a bird poking around the loungers. It fits everything Rockstar keeps saying about the density of its world.

A seaplane flies over the Leonida Keys, with green islets in a turquoise sea and a lightning storm on the horizon.

One of our first looks at GTA VI's weather: a lightning storm rolls toward the Keys as a seaplane passes overhead.

Swamps, rivers and wildlife

A Leonida swamp at dawn, with a deer in the tall grass, a white heron in the water and flocks of birds overhead.
A man in a cap with a rifle slung on his back rides an ATV beside a creek where two deer are drinking among the rocks.
A wooden bridge beside a waterfall in a wooded area, with a group of hikers crossing and birds in the air.
A wooden swamp dock at night, with two men next to drums, alligators in the water and a lit house behind them.

Four shots dedicated to nature say a lot about where Rockstar's focus lies. The ATV rider with a rifle near the deer is straight out of Red Dead Redemption 2's hunting, and a dock with alligators a few feet away is pure Florida.

Inland Leonida

A crop duster flies low over a dusty field where several people crouch by a white pickup, with a water tower and the city in the distance.
A biker with a bandana over his face aims a pistol from his chopper outside a roadside bar as other bikers run toward him.
A bearded biker in a vest hugs a woman in fishnets inside a neon-lit biker bar.

The crop duster buzzing a group by a pickup hints at an action scene out in the fields, while bikers feature twice: a gunpoint chase outside a roadside bar and a neon-soaked night inside another.

Jason, Lucia and Vice City at night

Jason, in a gray T-shirt, grips a baseball bat in a cluttered store next to the cash register.
Lucia, with a red bandana over her face, crouches behind crates with an assault rifle while several armed men keep watch at night.
The Vice City skyline at dusk with lit towers, a Ferris wheel, an arena by the bay and searchlights pointing into a purple sky.

Jason wielding a bat in a store and Lucia lying in wait with a rifle show the couple's criminal side, and the set closes on a postcard of Vice City at dusk, Ferris wheel and searchlights included.

What these images tell us

With only a handful of the 12 shots showing Vice City, the message is loud and clear: GTA VI wants Leonida to matter as much as the city. Swamps, farms, rivers and roadside bars dominate the selection, in line with the map twice the size of GTA V's the magazine describes. The game launches on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
