GTA San Andreas: The 3D Saga story mod sends Tommy Vercetti to Las Venturas

The 3D Saga rebuilds GTA San Andreas’s missions from scratch for a new story with Tommy Vercetti working for Sonny Forelli. What it offers and what’s missing.

What if Tommy Vercetti had ended up working in San Andreas? That's the premise of Grand Theft Auto: The 3D Saga, a story mod for GTA San Andreas by nlspeednl, unveiled on GTAForums on November 14, 2025. It isn't a map conversion: it's a brand-new campaign with missions written from scratch, bringing characters and gangs from across the 3D era together in the state of San Andreas.

The story: Tommy, working for Sonny Forelli

The lead is Tommy Vercetti from GTA Vice City, here on Sonny Forelli's payroll. The San Andreas map gets carved up differently:

  • Las Venturas: the Forelli, Leone and Sindacco families.
  • Los Santos: the street gangs.
  • San Fierro: the Colombians, the Triads, the Yakuza and other crews.

The idea is to put the families and gangs of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas in one shared world, something Rockstar only ever hinted at through cross-references between its games.

What act one includes

nlspeednl deleted every San Andreas script and rebuilt them from the ground up. What's out so far, first released on December 1, 2025, is act one, set in Las Venturas and Tierra Robada:

  • 50 missions (51 counting a cutscene-only one; around 75 including post-mission events), good for 12+ hours of play.
  • 10 safehouses and 18 outfits.
  • 12 new weapons and 42 new vehicles taken from other 3D-era GTAs.
  • 40 hidden packages.
  • All 4,000+ CJ voice lines swapped for Tommy's, eight colour combinations per car, Vice City-style weapon halos, new menus and loading screens, and a different tune for every mission passed.

What it doesn't have yet

Worth knowing before you get excited: the dialogue isn't voiced for now, so cutscenes play out in subtitles. The creator also put together 14 custom radio stations with around 400 songs, but isn't distributing them because of copyright. And the map is San Andreas's, unchanged: the new stuff is in the story, not the setting.

It needs a clean copy of GTA San Andreas 1.0 (the Steam version won't work); essential fixes such as SilentPatch and the Widescreen Fix come bundled. GTA House doesn't link to downloads.

Version 0.103

Version 0.103 arrived on March 8, 2026, with crash fixes, a 30 fps cap by default, and a text file that lets the community translate the mod into other languages. Playtesting was done by English Ben and Joshimuz.

Our take

The 3D Saga started in June 2024 as a personal project and has grown into one of the longest fan campaigns around: 50 missions in act one alone is more than plenty of full games offer. The missing voice acting hurts, though; in a GTA it matters. There's also the matter of Rockstar's mod guidelines from September 2026, which ban mixing characters and locations from different Rockstar games, and that's the whole point of this project.
