GTA VI launches on

SilentPatch 2026 update: 100+ fixes and lost San Andreas dialogue

The biggest SilentPatch update yet fixes over 100 bugs across GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas on PC and restores around a hundred voice lines that never played.

Twenty-plus years after release, the PC versions of the 3D-era classics are still getting fixed. On July 31, 2026, SilentPatch got its biggest content update ever: more than 100 new fixes across GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. The headline feature is San Andreas: around a hundred voice lines the original cast recorded, but which never played because of typos and broken setups, can finally be heard.

Modders Are Still Fixing San Andreas in 2026

Why SilentPatch matters

The PC ports of the trilogy, released between 2002 and 2005, shipped with plenty of problems: UI that didn't scale to high resolutions, crashes, broken mouse controls and code shared between games that didn't always fit. SilentPatch, created by Silent (CookiePLMonster), fixes them without changing what makes the games what they are. It's built for the original PC releases, not The Definitive Edition.

The project went open source in late 2024, and that made the difference: the community filed hundreds of bug reports and more than a dozen contributors chipped in code. After the last big update, Silent predicted there wouldn't be another one this size. That prediction didn't hold up.

San Andreas finds its voice

Building on Kaizo M's research into San Andreas's speech system, Silent tracked down lines that sat in the game files but never triggered. Now you'll hear:

  • Pedestrians chatting about the weather, which never worked before.
  • CJ's lines while shooting, previously controller-only, now with mouse and keyboard too.
  • CJ celebrating after taking over specific neighborhoods: the game tried to give those lines to his recruits.
  • Shopkeepers and barbers reacting at gunpoint. The Ammu-Nation clerk alone had over fifteen unused lines, and his voice actor went on to play Toni Cipriani in Liberty City Stories.
  • Taunts aimed at the Vagos, Triads, San Fierro Rifa and Da Nang Boys, plus cops yelling that you're surrounded or calling for cover.
  • A fully working Good Citizen Bonus, which had only ever half worked.

Highlights for each game

GTA III: gangs walk in single file again, as seen in pre-release footage; roadblocks no longer spawn sideways; parking a boat in a garage no longer breaks your save; NPCs can actually use sniper rifles and rocket launchers; and subtitles stop covering the radar.

Vice City: muggers pickpocket pedestrians again; stingers no longer crash the game; there's an option to bring back the property-for-sale map icon; the Rio's canopy folds and the Tropic's radar spins; and the exhaust heat haze scales properly with resolution.

San Andreas: the countryside sky no longer turns red at 8 p.m. when it rains; the plane that exploded in a Fort Carson driveway is gone (it was meant to be a BMX, but had the wrong vehicle ID); the Skimmer shows up even with incomplete data; and the birds in Ice Cold Killa finally appear.

All three: light flares now scale with resolution, so sirens and the sun look as intended, along with fewer crashes and better compatibility with other mods.

The GTA III gang fix has the best backstory. On PC, gangs spawned in a circle like in Vice City, then scattered or froze in place: Vice City code that had slipped into the port. On PS2, the code spawned a group and then gave up after the first member. Once the logic was rebuilt properly, Silent found the gangs were meant to walk in a line, like in GTA 2, exactly as in pre-release clips. It can be switched off in the settings.

August 15 update: first hotfix

Hotfix #1 arrived for all three games on August 15, 2026. It fixes several issues introduced by the update, including a serious one in GTA III: if you saved after the mission "Rumble," the Purple Nines kept spawning in your game. It also resolves conflicts with several mods, most notably Maxo's Vehicle Loader. If you'd already updated, it's worth doing so again.

Our take

SilentPatch was already essential for playing the original trilogy on PC, and this update makes that even clearer. What stands out is the approach: rather than inventing new content, it finishes what Rockstar left half-done, and documents every fix in more detail than most studios give their own games. If you've been meaning to revisit Los Santos, Vice City or Liberty City before GTA 6 arrives, there's no better time.
