GTA+ adds Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars on iOS and Android

GTA+ members can now play GTA Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars on mobile at no extra cost. Here’s how to unlock them and what the membership includes.

Since October 19, 2023, GTA Online’s GTA+ membership has included two handheld classics from the series on iOS and Android: GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Chinatown Wars. With it, the GTA+ games library is no longer console-only.

How to unlock them

  1. Download the latest version of each game from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign in with the Rockstar Games Social Club account linked to the console where your GTA+ membership is active.
  3. The full game stays unlocked as long as you’re subscribed and the title remains in the library.

Not a member? The updated versions offer a one-time 30-minute free trial, with the option to buy the full game afterwards.

Two classics worth revisiting

  • Liberty City Stories (2005): it started life on PSP before moving to PS2. A prequel to GTA III set in 1998 Liberty City, it follows Toni Cipriani rising through the Leone family — the same map as GTA III, but a different era and different stories.
  • Chinatown Wars (2009): first released on Nintendo DS with a top-down view and a distinctive cel-shaded look. Huang Lee arrives in Liberty City to deliver a family sword and ends up in the middle of a triad war. Its drug-dealing minigame is one of the series’ best-remembered features.

Both suit a touchscreen well and are ideal for short sessions.

What the GTA+ library is

The games included with GTA+ are a rotating selection: available while your membership lasts and while Rockstar keeps them in the library. At the time it already featured GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The membership costs $5.99 a month and, besides the games, deposits GTA$500,000 into your Maze Bank account on each renewal, along with monthly vehicles and perks in GTA Online. Mobile access needs a compatible device, an internet connection and the linked console account.

Our take

For anyone already paying for GTA+ for GTA Online, it was a nice extra at no added cost. The library kept growing too: Bully joined in August 2024.
