GTA 6 on Switch 2? Nintendo says it's up to Take-Two

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard won't confirm GTA VI for Switch 2, calling it "a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar." Here's what she said.

Is GTA VI coming to Nintendo Switch 2? Not as far as anyone will say. Asked about it in a Variety interview reported on October 9, 2026, Devon Pritchard, president of Nintendo of America, passed the question straight on: "That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time."

What Nintendo actually said

Pritchard didn't rule it out, but she didn't hint at anything either. She added that Nintendo's brand "has always been for all ages," that the company wants a diverse lineup on its current hardware, and that "we're just at the beginning of seeing what Nintendo Switch 2 can do."

Put simply, mature games aren't a dealbreaker for Nintendo, but porting GTA VI isn't Nintendo's call. Rockstar decides where and when its games ship.

GTA on Nintendo hardware: a short history

Grand Theft Auto has only visited Nintendo systems a handful of times:

  • GTA and GTA 2 were ported to the Game Boy Color.
  • GTA Advance (2004) was a Game Boy Advance exclusive.
  • GTA Chinatown Wars (2009) launched on the Nintendo DS.
  • GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition brought GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas to the original Switch.

GTA V never made it to a Nintendo console. Rockstar does already know its way around the new hardware, though: Red Dead Redemption is out on Switch 2.

Our take

Don't hold your breath. GTA VI is a huge game built for PS5 and Xbox Series, and Rockstar hasn't even announced the PC version yet, which has traditionally been next in line. A Switch 2 port would be a serious technical job, and if it ever happens it's far more likely to come well after launch than alongside it. If Nintendo is your only platform, it's safest not to count on it any time soon.
