Seen in Liberty City remakes GTA III’s story inside LCS on PSP
Barcode Studia ports every GTA III mission to Liberty City Stories’ 1998 Liberty City on PSP, with cut content and a new radio station. Here’s what it offers.
Seen in Liberty City is out. On April 5, 2026, modding group Barcode Studia released this total conversion for the PSP version of GTA Liberty City Stories, which retells the full story of GTA III in LCS's 1998 Liberty City. Claude, Catalina, Joey Leone and the rest are back, now running on the prequel's engine and in its style.
The setup
The premise hasn't changed: small-time crook Claude is betrayed and shot by his girlfriend Catalina during a bank job outside Liberty City. He narrowly survives and wants just one thing: revenge. Everything else is new. The team has brought all of GTA III over to LCS except the map changes and the cinematic cutscenes: missions, characters and extra content, now set in the city as it looked three years earlier.

What's different from GTA III
This isn't a straight copy of the original missions. Barcode Studia has rewritten them to fit LCS's game design, and used the chance to add what Rockstar left on the cutting-room floor:
- Ideas Rockstar dropped: things planned for GTA III that never shipped, like the fight club mentioned in the game's design document.
- New side missions, including one at the Yakuza dojo.
- Fixes for plenty of script bugs and oversights from the original game.
- A radio lineup based on the PS2 soundtrack, with several cut songs and a brand-new station, Liberty Soul FM.
- New artwork of the GTA III cast by marmakar, plus easter eggs.
- The GTA III characters' voices run through AI filters so they sound like their LCS versions, since the story now takes place in 1998.
Players have also started uncovering secret mission endings, according to the project's GTAForums thread.

Who Barcode Studia are
This isn't their first big project. Barcode Studia previously released Forelli Redemption (2021) and Sindacco Chronicles (2022) on GTAForums, two GTA III total conversions with their own stories. Seen in Liberty City is led and programmed by 1826, with Jeansowaty and Al Alvarez on writing and design. The first trailer dropped on February 23, 2026, only six weeks before release.
You'll need the PSP version of Liberty City Stories to play it, and there's a Russian version as well as the English one. GTA House doesn't link to downloads.

Our take
GTA III and LCS depict the same city three years apart, so the idea makes perfect sense: the prequel's engine is more modern, and the 1998 city has details the 2001 version lost. It's also more proof of how alive the PSP-era scene still is, alongside the native PC recompilation of LCS. There's one catch: running the characters' voices through AI clashes with Rockstar's mod guidelines, published in September, which don't allow modifying or reusing voice performances from its games.
