Every 3D-era GTA from the PS2 years has made it to PC except one: GTA Vice City Stories. A Russian modding group wants to fix that. On February 18, 2026, White Trash Games revealed GTA: Vice City Stories – 20th Anniversary Edition with a trailer set to Blondie's "Heart of Glass": an unofficial PC port running at 4K and 60 fps. The goal was a 2026 release to mark the game's 20th anniversary, though the team warned it would rather slip than ship something half-done.

The one that never came to PC

Vice City Stories launched on PSP in October 2006 and on PS2 in 2007. It's a prequel to Vice City set in 1984, starring Victor Vance, and it sold well for a handheld game. Yet it never got a computer release. Its sibling, Liberty City Stories, eventually made it to mobile and is now part of GTA+. Vice City Stories is still stuck on two consoles hardly anyone plugs in anymore.

What the port promises

The team has been at it since April 2024 and put the project at around 78% complete in February. It uses reVC, the Vice City reverse-engineering project, as its technical foundation, though the team stresses the result isn't a reverse-engineered product and that mechanics and visuals are being rebuilt by hand, without AI.

  • Content: everything from the 2007 PS2 version, PS2-exclusive material included.
  • Extras: cut content found in the game files, such as character lines for reckless driving.
  • Performance: 4K at 60 fps, improved textures and bug fixes.
  • Controls: mouse and keyboard, plus controller support.
  • Quality of life: restart a mission after failing, pause and skip cutscenes and trips, and replay the last 30 seconds.
  • Languages: English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish, with Polish and Ukrainian possible.
  • Source code: to be published after launch.

The goal is a faithful recreation, with no fan-made additions beyond what was already in the game.

April update: Take-Two pulls the videos

The risk was obvious from day one, and it materialized in April. Around April 21, 2026, the trailer was blocked on YouTube following a copyright complaint from Take-Two Interactive, and YouTube then removed every video on the channel at the publisher's request. White Trash Games said it would keep working but post less often to avoid further strikes. Since then, updates have mostly gone out through Telegram and VK.

It's the same playbook as Vice City Nextgen Edition in January 2025: a Russia-based team, videos taken down, and a project that carries on anyway, because Take-Two can scrub content from platforms but has a much harder time stopping the work itself.

There's also a hurdle that arrived later: in September, Rockstar published its mod guidelines, which explicitly ban bringing its games to platforms it hasn't released them on. A PC port of Vice City Stories is precisely that.

Our take

That fans have to do what Rockstar hasn't in twenty years says plenty about how forgotten this game is. Vice City Stories deserves a PC version, and what White Trash Games has shown looks promising. But with the new rules in place and Take-Two watching anything Vice City-related in the middle of the GTA 6 campaign, it's worth waiting to see whether it actually ships, and in what form. GTA House won't be linking to any download.

Later, in August, a very different attempt appeared: a native Windows recompilation of Vice City Stories that requires dumping your own PSP copy.
