It was one of Rockstar’s biggest debts to PC players. On October 8, 2024, the studio announced with a trailer that Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion will come to PC for the first time on October 29. Two days later, on October 10, pre-purchases opened.

Confirmed PC features

The version is being made with Double Eleven, the same studio that brought the game to Switch and PS4 in 2023, and will offer:

  • Native 4K and up to 144 Hz on compatible hardware.
  • Support for ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitors.
  • HDR10.
  • NVIDIA DLSS 3.7, NVIDIA Frame Generation and AMD FSR 3.0.
  • Adjustable draw distance and shadow quality.
  • Full keyboard and mouse controls.

Where to pre-purchase

From October 10 you can pre-purchase it on the Rockstar Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store. On consoles, the game remains available on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox.

A treat for collectors

To mark the launch, the Rockstar Store brought back two items from the original Red Dead Redemption Frontier Collection: a deck of playing cards and a liar’s dice set — the betting minigame many will remember from the game’s saloons.

Why it’s good news

Red Dead Redemption launched in 2010 only on PS3 and Xbox 360, and for fourteen years PC players went without it, even after Red Dead Redemption 2 made it to computers. Our take: the feature list is exactly what you’d expect from a good modern port, and bundling both stories is the best way to discover it.

What happened next

The game launched on October 29 as planned. Everything the final version offers is in our article on Red Dead Redemption’s PC launch.
