Red Dead Online adds Head for the Hills (Dodge a Bullet), a run-for-cover Showdown

Red Dead Online's new Head for the Hills (Dodge a Bullet) pits runners against snipers, with triple Gold through June 2025 and bonuses on hideouts and missions.

This article is from June 3, 2025. Some details may have changed since then.

New content arrives in Red Dead Online only occasionally, so every new mode matters. On June 3, 2025, Rockstar launched Head for the Hills (Dodge a Bullet), a fresh take on the Head for the Hills Showdown mode, paying triple Gold through June 30.

How Dodge a Bullet works

Two sides with opposite goals:

  • Runners must cross rough terrain to reach their Safehouse.
  • Defenders hold high ground with long-range weapons and pick the Runners off one by one.

In practice it's movement against marksmanship: Runners win by using cover and keeping momentum, Defenders by reading routes before their targets reach them.

Where to play and what it pays

The mode led the Featured Series from June 3 to 9 and, together with Hardcore Head for the Hills (June 10–16), paid 3X Gold all month. The rest of June's series — Hardcore Gun Rush Teams (17–23) and Overrun (24–30) — paid triple RDO$ and XP.

What it means for Red Dead Online

Since Rockstar stopped releasing major Red Dead Online updates in 2022, the game has run on monthly events and small variations like this one. Dodge a Bullet doesn't change the game, but it's a genuinely new, well-designed group mode, and triple Gold makes it a good way to earn the premium currency for free. If you follow the game week to week, Red Dead Online's 2026 bonuses stick to the same formula.
