On September 28, 2021, Red Dead Online launched A Tough Business, three Hardcore Telegram Missions.
What makes them “Hardcore”
- Enemies don't appear on the minimap.
- No aim assist.
Rockstar billed them as “a true test of your aim, will, and determination.”
The three missions
Mission | Objective |
|---|---|
Good and Dead | Kill a target in the heart of Saint Denis with only a description of their outfit. Josiah pays according to how clean the job is: don't alert the mark, his gang or the law |
Frontier Justice | The Del Lobos gang has occupied Armadillo. You can move around town if you don't fire, and freeing hostages opens ways to disrupt the gang |
Cold Day in Hell | Steal a gang's robbery plans from their snowy hideout in Colter, quietly — raise the alarm and backup arrives |

That week's bonuses
Trader and Moonshine sales paid 50% extra RDO$ and Role XP, all Races gave double XP, and the Butcher Table and Moonshine Shack were 5 Gold Bars cheaper.
Why it matters
A Tough Business showed Rockstar could extend Red Dead Online's life with small, replayable content — the approach it formally adopted a year later when it announced the end of major updates. The Hardcore missions remain among the toughest in the game and still get bonuses, as in August 2026.
