Beyond the visual upgrade, the new version brought exclusive GTA Online content and a far easier way in for new players.
Hao's Special Works
Hao took over the LS Car Meet's mod shop. To unlock it, take his call and beat a time trial in an HSW car. From there you can buy the HSW upgrade for eligible vehicles, with dramatically better acceleration and chameleon paints.
Eligible on day one | |
|---|---|
New (current-gen only) | Coil Cyclone II, Karin S95, Imponte Arbiter GT, Pfister Astron Custom, Pegassi Weaponized Ignus |
Existing | Übermacht Sentinel XS, Shitzu Hakuchou Drag, Grotti Turismo Classic, Bravado Banshee |
There was also the HSW Race Series, a weekly HSW Time Trial (the first from East Vinewood to Vespucci Beach) and a weekly Premium Test Ride on Hao's podium.

For new players

- A new main menu with direct access to Heists, Races, Freemode and the week's events.
For veterans
- Profile migration from PS4 or Xbox One on first launch, or from the Pause Menu. The profile is removed from the old console once migrated.
- Migration rewards: an HSW-upgraded Karin S95, the Cool Noise HSW Racing Suit and the Dark Purple Pearl and Red Prismatic Pearl chameleon paints.
- Session type selection from Find New Session, and higher base pay on Biker Sell Missions and Nightclub Daily Income on current-gen.

What it meant
It was the first time GTA Online split into versions with different content: current-gen exclusives (HSW, wildlife, Career Progress, GTA+) didn't reach PC until three years later with GTA V Enhanced. Two weeks after this launch, GTA+ arrived too — initially exclusive to these consoles.
