GTA 6 Pre-Orders Pass $600 Million, Says Sensor Tower
Sensor Tower puts GTA VI at 6.45 million pre-orders and $630 million in revenue a month before launch, with PS5 far ahead of Xbox. The numbers and what they mean.
GTA VI isn't out yet, and it's already one of the biggest money-makers in gaming history. Analytics firm Sensor Tower estimates the game has racked up 6.45 million pre-orders worth around $630 million, according to figures reported by Insider Gaming on October 20, 2026 — with less than a month to go before it launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.

The numbers by platform
Pre-orders | Revenue | Share | |
|---|---|---|---|
PlayStation 5 | 4.8 million | $468 million | 74% |
Xbox Series X|S | 1.66 million | $162 million | 26% |
Total | 6.45 million | $630 million |
Keep in mind these are third-party estimates. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has shared pre-order figures. Even so, they show the scale of what's coming: plenty of big-budget games never make that much over their entire lifetime.
Why PS5 has three out of every four
The split isn't surprising. PS5 has outsold Xbox Series consoles by roughly three to one, and the pre-order share tracks that almost exactly. PlayStation also has its own limited-edition GTA VI DualSense controllers. Xbox, for its part, said back in September that GTA VI was breaking its own pre-order records, and Sensor Tower's data doesn't contradict that — 1.66 million copies on Xbox is still a huge number.
What's still to come
Pre-orders usually surge in the final weeks:
- November 12: pre-loading opens for digital pre-orders, a week before launch. Everything you need is in our pre-order guide.
- November 19: launch day. Another analytics firm, Newzoo, estimates GTA VI could make up to $5.2 billion in its first week.
For context, GTA V hit $1 billion in its first three days back in 2013, which made it the fastest-selling entertainment launch ever at the time.
Our take
Pre-orders are only part of the story — plenty of players buy on launch day or wait for the first impressions. But reaching $630 million a month out, with no PC version and after two delays, makes it pretty clear GTA V's record won't last long. If you're going digital, the November 12 pre-load is the best reason to pre-order early: you'll be playing on the 19th instead of waiting for a download.
