GTA Online: Double Down, the co-op mode where you play as Franklin and Lamar

Double Down arrived in GTA Online in January 2022: an Adversary Mode where Franklin and Lamar hold off an assault in a train yard. Plus, the Nagasaki Shinobi.

A month after The Contract launched, GTA Online got a new mode on January 14, 2022 starring the two GTA V characters the update had brought online: Double Down, where two players step into the shoes of Franklin and Lamar.

How Double Down works

It's a round-based Adversary Mode in close quarters — a train yard:

  • Franklin and Lamar must survive an onslaught of attackers wielding Double Barrel Shotguns, using the arsenal at their fingertips.
  • Next round the roles flip, and you attack the duo as they defend their turf.

At launch it paid 3X GTA$ and RP to both teams, and simply playing a round earned GTA$200,000.

Nagasaki Shinobi

The same week, Legendary Motorsport started selling the Nagasaki Shinobi, an agile, powerful sports bike Rockstar described as “angrier than a bulldog chewing on a wasp”.

Why it matters

The Contract was the first update to have GTA V's protagonists working alongside players, and Double Down took that a step further: beyond the Short Trips, you could now play directly as Franklin and Lamar in a competitive mode.
