On February 4, 2022, those songs were released outside the game for the first time — on Spotify, Apple Music and every other service — as Grand Theft Auto: The Contract by Dr. Dre.
The tracks

In-game, each song is unlocked as a reward for a mission in Dr. Dre's VIP Contract story — “The Scenic Route”, for example, plays during the Rockford Hills party mission, The High Society Leak.
Update: Short Trips for everyone
On February 11, 2022, Rockstar opened Short Trips — the two-player co-op missions where you play as Franklin and Lamar — to all players. Until then they only unlocked after completing Dr. Dre's entire VIP Contract; from that day they launch from the Jobs menu.
There are three missions following Lamar's attempt to build a legit weed business:
- Seed Capital: protect a warehouse and a truck full of product from the Vagos.
- Fire It Up: burn down the Vagos' illegal grow houses in Sandy Shores.
- OG Kush: deal with Jimmy Boston, actor and Epsilon devotee, Lamar's first big client.

Why it matters
An artist of Dr. Dre's stature debuting music inside a video game was one of The Contract's biggest draws, and the streaming release proved it was more than a cameo. That same day, Rockstar also confirmed that the next GTA was in development. As for Short Trips, Rockstar has kept boosting them over the years, as in 2026's 420 Event.
