On January 25, 2024, GTA Online added a new race type to the LS Car Meet scene: Drag Races, straight-line sprints where everything comes down to shifting gears at exactly the right moment. They arrived as part of The Chop Shop's drip-feed content, alongside the Drift Races introduced with the update.

How to win a Drag Race

  • Burnout at the line to warm your tyres.
  • Perfect gear changes to build speed — the heart of the mode.
  • Dodge traffic: you're racing on public streets, and one collision ends your run.
  • Limited nitrous: save it to pass a rival or steal the win on the final stretch.

Getting started

  1. Become an LS Car Meet Member by talking to Mimi (half price that week).
  2. Head to the blip outside the Car Meet, or open your iFruit and go to Quick Join > Series Modes > Drag Race Series.

They launched at 2X GTA$ and RP through January 31, and winning two Drag or Drift Races completed that week's challenge: GTA$100,000 and the Bright Manor Racing Suit.

Also that week

  • New Salvage Yard Robbery targets: Bravado Buffalo EVX, Lampadati Viseris and Pegassi Toros.
  • Auto Shop Robbery Contracts and Rhino Hunt at double pay.
  • Auto Shops and upgrades 30% off.

Our verdict

Drag Races rounded out the LS Car Meet's racing lineup — street, pursuit, drift and drag — and gave a purpose to many tuner cars that fell short on regular circuits. Races are short and demanding, more about skill with the shifter than knowing the track. They've since become a regular feature of car events, such as 2026's Motor Madness.
