GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries is out — Project Overthrow and what’s new
San Andreas Mercenaries is live in GTA Online: Project Overthrow, LSA Operations, Avenger and Hangar upgrades, new aircraft and the Tactical SMG explained.

You join Charlie Reed’s Los Santos Angels to tear down Merryweather Security through air strikes and guerrilla operations.
What you need to get started
Everything revolves around the Operations Terminal, an interior upgrade for the Mammoth Avenger. Buy it from Charlie in the Hangar, from the Avenger’s upgrade menu or — if you don’t own a Hangar — on the Warstock Cache & Carry website. From this update on, the Avenger no longer requires a Facility or Hangar: you call it to your position from the Interaction Menu.
Project Overthrow: the campaign against Merryweather
Project Overthrow is Charlie’s plan to topple Merryweather by exploiting its defence contracts, illegal R&D and shady rackets. It’s six missions for 1 to 4 players: recon, equipment recovery, rescues and all-out combat against the company’s war machine.
LSA Operations
The terminal also launches three replayable LSA Operations: leap from a helicopter onto an aircraft carrier deck at night, call in a bombing run, or knock out a government site with an EMP. Your first completion of each earns an outfit, and replays rotate bonus objectives that boost the pay. You can start them by calling Charlie, too.
The Hangar and ground smuggling
- Hangars can now store and customise the Avenger and house an Mk II weapons workshop.
- Rooster McCraw, a dishonourably discharged chopper pilot, will source cargo for a fee.
- Free snacks and weapons are scattered around, plus a shortcut to Flight School.
- The Land option on the Free Trade Shipping Co. laptop adds four source missions and three sell missions for smugglers who’d rather drive than fly.
Avenger upgrades
With a Hangar workshop you can add front machine guns and missiles, a Stealth Module or a Missile Lock-On Jammer that work while on autopilot. The handiest addition is the Mammoth Avenger Thruster: leave the Avenger on autopilot, get stuck on the ground, call the Thruster and dock through the rear cargo bay.

The limited-time Los Santos Drug Wars cars (Weeny Issi Rally, Toundra Panthere, Karin Hotring Everon and Willard Eudora) went on permanent sale, and plenty of rarely used models were pulled from the dealership websites.
Tactical SMG and other changes
The Tactical SMG is fully automatic, has an oversized mag and works for drive-bys; find it at the Gun Van. The update also rebalanced the economy, expanded the Creator and added the new Career tab to the pause menu on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Our take
This update is all about breathing life into older businesses: if your Smuggler’s Run Hangar was gathering dust, now’s the time to dust it off. Rockstar returned to air smuggling years later with Oscar Guzman Flies Again.
