GTA V wouldn't reach current-gen consoles in November after all. On September 9, 2021, during a PlayStation Showcase that featured a new trailer, Rockstar announced that GTA V and GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S were slipping from November 11, 2021 to March 2022.

Why

Rockstar said the game needed “a few additional months for polishing and fine-tuning.” It promised technical and graphical improvements across the experience and performance enhancements for select vehicles in GTA Online — what became Hao's Special Works.

What stayed the same

  • The standalone GTA Online, free on PS5 for its first three months and not requiring GTA V.
  • For PS Plus members on PS4, GTA$1,000,000 every month in GTA Online until the PS5 launch.

What happened next

In February 2022, Rockstar set the exact day in the same post where it confirmed the next GTA was in development, shared the details in the March announcement, and the game launched on March 15, 2022. The original November date had been given in May, in its summer 2021 preview.
