On May 18, 2021, Rockstar outlined what was coming to GTA Online and Red Dead Online in the months ahead. Without naming them, it described both summer updates and gave a date that would later change: GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 11, 2021.

GTA Online: car culture returns

Rockstar teased the return of car culture to Los Santos, with an underground car meet for showing off and testing rides away from the police, new race types and multi-part robberies where a well-tuned getaway car would be your best weapon. That was Los Santos Tuners, which arrived on July 20.

Before that, in May and June:

  • 8 new Stunt Races in the Stunt Series (May 27).
  • 7 new arenas for Deadline.
  • Survival expanding to new locations across Los Santos and Blaine County.

Red Dead Online: races and organised crime

  • 8 new horse races (May 25), from Gaptooth Breach to Annesburg and Lagras, across Standard, Open, Target and Open Target (bow) formats.
  • The summer update would take players into Saint Denis' underworld with Guido Martelli, Angelo Bronte's right-hand man. That was Blood Money.

Current-gen GTA V… on November 11

Rockstar confirmed GTA V and GTA Online would reach PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 11, 2021, with standalone GTA Online free on PS5 for three months and perks for players of the summer updates. It also promised surprises for GTA III's 20th anniversary. In September the date slipped to March 2022, and the game finally arrived on March 15.

Why it matters

This roadmap set up one of the busiest summers for Rockstar's online games: Los Santos Tuners redefined GTA Online with the LS Car Meet, and Blood Money turned out to be Red Dead Online's last major themed update.
