GTA Online: Assault on Cayo Perico and the Buckingham Weaponized Conada

August 2023 brought Assault on Cayo Perico, an attack-and-defend Adversary Mode on El Rubio's island, and put the armed Conada helicopter on sale.

Two years before Cayo Perico Motor Wars, El Rubio's island had already hosted a competitive mode. On August 10, 2023, GTA Online launched Assault on Cayo Perico, an attackers versus defenders Adversary Mode, and put the Buckingham Weaponized Conada helicopter on sale.

How Assault on Cayo Perico works

  • Attackers must reach a crucial computer terminal and hack it. The route starts at the airfield, moves through the docks, requires destroying radar arrays and ends in a tense standoff inside El Rubio's fortified compound.
  • Defenders have to hold out until time runs out, using suppressive fire from positions across the island.

Launch it from the blip near Los Santos International Airport or via Quick Join, and in its debut it paid 2X GTA$ and RP to both sides. Classic modes like Occupy, Extraction and Trading Places (Remix) also returned that week.

Buckingham Weaponized Conada

The armed version of the Conada, with twin machine guns and missile launchers, is the one Merryweather flies in Unconventional Warfare from Project Overthrow. From that week it could be bought at Warstock Cache & Carry.

A month of business bonuses

The update kicked off a month of business-focused bonuses, starting with Gunrunning: double Bunker sales, double research speed, triple Ammu-Nation Contracts and Bunkers 30% off. Rockstar encouraged players to use the new Career Progress on PS5 and Xbox Series, introduced with the San Andreas Mercenaries improvements, to track progress in each business.

Our verdict

Assault on Cayo Perico makes good use of a map that until then was mostly associated with the heist and the Cayo Perico Series races: progressing zone by zone gives every match the rhythm of a military assault. It was the first Adversary Mode set on the island, followed by Motor Wars and the zombie Survival.
